CMDCM(SS) RAYMOND R. CHAMBERLAIN, USN
Master Chief Petty Officer Chamberlain was born in Cheyenne, WY in 1963. He enlisted in the Navy in the Subfarer program in January 1983, attending Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL where he served as first platoon leader. After graduating Boot Camp he attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) in Groton, CT.
Master Chief Chamberlain served onboard the USS ANDREW JACKSON, (SSBN 619 Gold) as a Seaman Recruit Striking to become a member of the Fire Control rating. He attended Fire Control formal training schools from 1984 to 1986 graduating with Fire Control Rating and as Second Class Petty officer. He transferred to Pearl Harbor, HI to the USS BIRMINGHAM (SSN 695) were he was the Division Leading Petty Officer.
In January 1990, Master Chief Chamberlain commenced his first shore tour at IBM, Manassas, VA serving as the Lead Fire Controlman for the development and testing of the AN/BSY-1 Fire Control System achieving Fleet Release in 1993.
Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) USS CHARLOTTE (SSN 766) was Master Chief Chamberlain’s next command from June 1993 to July 1998. While onboard the USS CHARLOTTE, Master Chief Chamberlain was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in September 1996 and also served as the Fire Control Division Chief, Combat System Department Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO), and the Local Area Network Administrator.
In January 1998, Master Chief Chamberlain transferred to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) SEA92 in Washington, DC. His assignment was the Test and Evaluation Director for the Fire Control Weapon Systems and Sonar Developments, the purpose of these systems is to achieve a greater level in acoustical advantage in areas of towed arrays and active sonar. During this period, he also served as the Submarine Year 2000 Roll-over Lead Test Director for all submarines and submersibles.
In February 2000, Master Chief Chamberlain's assignments led him to the USS ANNAPOLIS (SSN 760) home ported in Groton, CT where he severed as the Combat Systems Department LCPO, Assistant Chief Of the Boat, Fire Control Leading Chief, Local Area Network Administrator, Assistant Weapons Officer, and the Information System Security Manager (ISSM). Master Chief Chamberlain advanced to the rank of Senior Chief onboard the USS ANNAPOLIS in 2001.
Master Chief Chamberlain graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 107) and Command Master Chief/Chief Of the Boat (CMDMC/COB, Class 002) in the summer of 2003.
Master Chief Chamberlain reported next as Chief Of the Boat USS SAN JUAN (SSN 751) from July 2003 to June 2006. His follow on assignment was to the Center for Naval Leadership in Dam Neck, VA where he served as the Staff CMC and program lead for all enlisted leadership programs and continuums.
In July 2007, he was transferred To COMSUBRON SIXTEEN in Kingsbay, GA, serving as the Fire Control and Strike Assistant. During this tour he ensured that the first ever Atlantic SSGN USS Florida deployment was successful.
His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (7 awards), National Defense (2 Awards), Good Conduct award (6 awards), Navy Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Global War on terrorism Expeditionary and Service medals, Battle Efficiency (1 award), Sea Service (6 awards) and Expert Rifle.
